Our Story

Foreword recognizes the potential of persons with disabilities and special needs and provides inclusive training and employment opportunities in the food services industry. Foreword started in 2017 as a hole-in-a-wall cafe in the National University of Singapore (NUS) and has since grown to a company offering a range of products and services while growing the number of café outlets serving specialty coffee in Singapore. We are a social enterprise member of raiSE (Singapore Centre for Social Enterprises) and we strive to amplify our impact through the initiatives and projects that we do.

Foreword Coffee Roasters
Foreword Coffee Roasters

Foreword Coffee Roasters represent the retail and roastery arm of Foreword. Since 2017, we have been directly sourcing for specialty-grade coffees in Asia. We are proud to have established partnerships in China, Laos, Thailand, and Indonesia. We roast our coffee freshly in Singapore for our retail outlets and clients. Our retail outlets provide a safe and inclusive work environment for neurodiverse individuals.

Foreword Innovations

Foreword Innovations represent our drive for change and innovation for sustainability. We work with startups that seek to create a more sustainable world, targeting consumerist behaviours and nudging people to waste less. We are a proud supporter of the BYOSG movement since 2018 and have also adopted more environmentally-friendly options for our single-use products that uses renewable sources as raw materials.

    The specialty coffee scene in Europe inspired me to use coffee as a platform to teach skills and connect the special needs community to the wider society. I consider it a privilege to be able to drive social change while enjoying what I’m doing.

    At Foreword, both my wallet and my heart are full; I can play a part in building sustainable livelihoods while making a difference to the lives of our employees. As the person handling Finance, I deal mostly with spreadsheets, but I still enjoy heading down to the cafes to hone my latte art skills and checking-in on how my baristas are doing. Beyond work, I enjoy scuba diving, gardening and hunting for pikachus at the arcade.

    I got to know about Foreword through SPD. I am always busy at the cafe tending to things and I like the informal interactions with my colleagues when we are less busy. I enjoy cycling, swimming, shopping, and taking photos.

    I joined Foreword because they accept differently-abled persons in which I was surprised and I hope to help spread awareness about it. I do everything in the cafe such as making coffee, pouring latte art, and helping our staff to be familiar with their tasks. Beyond work, I also enjoy traveling and cycling.
